Albert Kelly - Restoration Creek Daylighting

Project completed in 2017
Project Number: E10824
Located on Restoration Creek in the Fanno Creek Watershed

Restoration Creek, a tributary to Fanno Creek, flows through Albert Kelly Park near Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and SW 39th Avenue. The creek flows above ground through the upper portion of the park, then drained into a pipe that carried the water through the lower southwest portion of the park. Piping small headwater streams significantly changes stream function. Water moves much faster through a smooth, straight pipe than it would naturally through a complex stream channel connected to a floodplain. To restore natural stream functions, the project to removed a portion of the pipe, bring Restoration Creek back to the surface. Daylighting streams that are in underground pipes brings the flow back to the surface, helping to slow stormwater runoff while also providing valuable habitat for fish and wildlife.

Project Goals
Restore natural stream function;  Decrease stream velocity;  Reduce peak flow;  Reduce downstream erosion at outfall;  Create additional stream habitat
