Bridlemile Elementary Garden Clean Up
Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 9 AM to 1 PM.
Join neighbors and families for a community garden clean up and planting party at the Bridlemile Elementary Garden (4300 SW 47th Drive, Portland, Oregon 97221).
This will be a community gathering with food and drinks to share, garden activities for everyone, and information sharing from the Bridlemile Emergency Team (NET).
The Bridlemile NET will be passing out Poo & Pee buckets for your emergency preparedness supply kit.
Funding for the event is provided by the Bridlemile Parent-Teacher Association with the support of the City of Portland District Four Coalition's Community Small Grants program.
SW Asian & North African Ceramics for Adults, Hillsdale library, Sunday, May 11 and 25th from 3:30 to 5 PM

Using basic, beginner-friendly techniques, create unique small projects in clay. In honor of Arab-American Heritage Month, artist Jess Graff will provide images and context of South West Asian and North African Ceramics that have inspired them as a Lebanese-American artist.
This is a two-part class with a two-week gap, on May 11 & May 25. Between classes, student creations will be fired in a kiln. Participants must attend both sessions. This class is for adults and older teens.

May is Bike Month

National Bike Month in May is promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.
Bike Month Challenge
Join the Portland Metro Region Bike Month Challenge in May! The challenge is open to anyone living or working in the Metro region. Whether you’re commuting by bike or just getting around - log any bike trip (manual or e-bike) on the Get There Oregon website for a chance to win prizes.

PBOT, with support from the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF), is hosting a series of Basic Bike Maintenance workshops at Multnomah County Library locations throughout the month of May. Ride over to your local library branch to tune up your bike for springtime riding.

”Safety-on-Shattuck”
7:00 to 7:20 PM (including Q&A): Mimi Phillips (Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT)) will describe the planned late Spring 2025 safety improvements to the intersection of SW Shattuck and Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway.
7:20 PM to 7:35 PM (including Q&A): Marita Ingalsbe (president of the Hayhurst Neighborhood Association and co-chair of Friends of Alpenrose) will go over transportation safety concerns for SW Shattuck and neighboring streets. This includes both the forthcoming traffic study (to be paid for by the Raleigh Crest developers) and PBOT's list of possible future SW Shattuck projects.
7:35 to 7:40 PM (including Q&A): Craig Koon (SWHRL Land Use and Transportation Chair) (if available) will give his perspective on what Portland District 4 commissioners can do to help get Shattuck Road safety projects done.
Afterwards, we will have a discussion of how to get more safety projects fully funded. We have invited all three Portland District 4 commissioners to attend.

Two Can Tuesday helps those in need in SW Portland. Drivers pick up donations of food and hygiene items from neighborhoods around SW Portland and deliver them to the Neighborhood House Free Food Market for distribution to individuals and families dealing with food insecurity.
Place donations outside of your home if you live on one of their routes or drop off your donations at one of their drop sites (see list below) or become a driver and helping them grow by adding a new route to this program.
